Long-term unemployment is on the rise and many people are looking for help...and sanity. New unemployment figures suggest that it takes roughly 22 weeks for the average person to find a new job. The government says that alarming figure is the highest on record. Here are some simple yet effective ways to financially and emotionally deal with long-term unemployment.
Visit the Unemployment Office
Capitalize on the proper benefits that are provided for the unemployed. Many states will grant up to 79 weeks of unemployment and the initial $2,400 in benefits will not be taxed. Understand the options by contacting the state unemployment office and see what can be offered based on an individuals current standing.
Consider a Part-Time Job
Work is work. Don't let unemployment be the end of a promising life in the work place. When a person has a job, that individual is more likely to get a job. Showcase skills and talents to impress those in a hiring position. Working in another occupation can still land an individual the job he or she is looking for in a particular field.
Understand the Current Economy
If a person understands the current state of the economy, and understands this situation is due to a recession, that individual is less likely to shoulder the depression or anger caused by unemployment. Due to the changing economy many people work various jobs in various fields instead of maintaining a solid job in a given occupation.
Don't be ashamed if that meticulous resume is all over the place in respect to different occupations. Job professionals understand the current trend and state of the economy and will expect irregular resumes.
Staffing Firms
Once again, it's important for an individual to know all the options when it comes to the job search. The use of a staffing firm is a productive way to increase productivity in respect to promising future employment.
Let the staffing firm know which company would best cater to an individual’s personal talent and experience level. Allow the firm to make the proper contacts that will allow the person a better chance to gain employment in that individuals field of choice.
Maintain a Daily Schedule
If the stress of the job search is beginning to wear thin...develop a daily routine. Set aside time to focus on future employment, but also set aside time to focus on daily living. Employment is vital in order to meet certain financial obligations, but personal relaxation and time with the family is just as important. Learn how to relieve the stress of the job search by developing a daily schedule. Personal sanity should never be a casualty of unemployment.
